New Assistant Principals Named for Middle School of Plainville

Joanna Tysko and Jacqueline Cappiello have been named assistant principals at the Middle School of Plainville, according to Superintendent of Schools, Brian Reas.

Mrs. Cappiello most recently served as the Derby, Connecticut public schools RAISE Academy coordinator, where she has been since 2021. Prior to that, she served as a science teacher in both the Amity Region 5 and North Haven, Connecticut school districts. She brings a wealth of experience in science education, curriculum development, program leadership and alternative education to her new role at the Middle School of Plainville. Mrs. Cappiello holds both a  Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Master of Arts Degree in teaching from Quinnipiac University, a 6th year Degree in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University, and several professional certifications.

Ms. Tysko most recently served as an Instructional Coach for the Sunset Ridge Middle School International Baccalaureate Program in the East Hartford Public Schools in East Hartford, Connecticut. Prior to that, she served as Interim Assistant Principal and as a history teacher for the Sunset Ridge Middle School International Baccalaureate Program. Additionally, Ms. Tysko worked as a language arts, leadership, and writing coach in the North Olmsted City Schools in Ohio, a language arts teacher in the Constellation Schools in Cleveland, Ohio, and as an English teacher and team leader for Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland. Ms. Tysko brings an array of experience in middle school leadership, coaching, data management, and International Baccalaureate programs. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The College of Wooster, a Literacy Coaching Graduate Certificate from the University of Maryland, a Master of Science Degree in Education from Capella University, a Master of Arts Degree in School Leadership from Baldwin Wallace University and several professional certifications.

Both Cappiello and Tysko will begin at the Middle School of Plainville in August.
