On Sunday, May 19th, amidst the cheers and excitement of the Hartford Yard Goats baseball game at Dunkin' Park, a special moment unfolded as the Middle School of Plainville was honored with the prestigious 2023-24 Anti-Defamation League No Place for Hate designation. Amidst the crack of baseball bats and the roar of the crowd for Middle School of Plainville seventh grader, Jahsir Torres, who threw out the first pitch of the game, representatives from the Middle School proudly paraded their banner around the field, showcasing their commitment to inclusivity and tolerance.

“This designation, earned by only 22 schools in Connecticut, signifies the school's dedication to fostering a culture of respect and understanding among its students and staff. As the banner fluttered in the breeze, it served as a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding all in attendance of the power of unity and acceptance in our school communities,” explained Assistant Principal, Melissa Orfitelli. “The Middle School of Plainville No Place for Hate Committee is dedicated to creating an equitable and inclusive climate at MSP.”

The No Place for Hate Committee was started at the Middle School of Plainville in 2022 by Orfitelli and several staff and student participants. The school has earned this designation from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for two consecutive years by implementing a pledge commitment each year and implementing student-created and led activities with the whole school to learn about identity, diversity, inclusion, acceptance, kindness, and more.

“I am so proud and appreciative of the hard work and dedication these students have poured into making MSP a place where all students feel welcomed, safe and respected. They are amazing!”  added Middle School of Plainville Principal, Aimee Roberts.

"MSP stands out with their courage and perseverance leading to this acknowledgement,” said Superintendent of Schools, Brian Reas.
