Adult & Continuing Education

Q: Does Plainville Community Schools have a summer school program?
A: Yes. Summer school is offered through Plainville Adult and Continuing Education. A brochure of summer courses is available online or by calling (860) 793-3209.

Q: Does Plainville Schools offer any classes for adults?
A: Yes. Plainville Adult & Continuing Education offers a variety of programs for residents, non-residents, and students 17 years or older. Government Mandated courses such as Adult Basic Education, GED Preparation courses, English as a Second Language, PARC, and the Credit Diploma Program are available tuition free for qualified individuals. Plainville Adult & Continuing Education also has computer courses and a variety of enrichment courses. A catalog of courses is available online in the Family Resources section of this website.

Q: Is there a GED Program?
A: Yes. Plainville Adult and Continuing Education offers a Pre GED and GED program. Preparation clases are available to individuals who are at least 17 years old and officially withdrawn from school. Entry assessment and interview are required to allow for appropriate placement in classes.

Plainville Adult & Continuing Education also offers a Credit Degree Program. This provides students with the opportunity to enroll or continue to earn credits for a high school diploma by taking required and elective course at Plainville High School.

Enrollment

 

Q: At what age do I need to enroll my child?
A: According to state law, parents are allowed to withhold their children from a formal education program at age 5 for one year and then again at age 6 for one year. The child must be enrolled in an education program at age 7. The law requires that parents who wish to hold their age 5 or age 6 child from school must go to the Board of Education office in person and sign an option form exempting their child from attendance at school. Parents of 5-or 6-year old children who are not attending school are urged to contact the Board of Education.

Q: What school will my child be enrolled in?
A: Plainville Community Schools has three elementary schools. To find what elementary school your child will attend, please call (860) 793-3200 or look up your address online. Middle School of Plainville is the only middle school and Plainville High School is the only high school in the school district.

Q: Who do I contact to enroll my child in kindergarten?
A: Please contact the elementary school your child will be attending for more information regarding registration dates and times. Listed below are phone numbers for the three elementary schools. To find out what school your child will be attending, please look up your street address in the Elementary School Street Assignments.

Q: My family just moved to Plainville, what do I do to enroll my child?
A: You are required to provide proof of residency before enrolling your child in Plainville Community Schools. Please send a letter requesting the necessary affidavit(s) to:

Q: How do I know if school has been cancelled or delayed?
A: School delays and cancellations are posted online at www.ctweather.com. Many local radio and TV stations broadcast the delay and cancellation announcements as well.

A: If conditions warrant, we have the option to close earlier. Early dismissals will be posted online at www.ctweather.com. Also, many local radio and TV stations broadcast these announcements.

Student Lunches

Q: What should I do if I have a question or complaint about the food service?
A:
It is best to talk to the cafeteria manager at the school in order to resolve any issue. The district food service director can be reached at 793-3234 if you need additional assistance.

Q: My family is experiencing financial difficulties. Is financial aid available for student lunches?
A: Yes, the Plainville School District participates in the national free and reduced price lunch program. You may pick up an application from the school office or contact the business office at 793-3210 x205.
